Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave Direct Showcases New Story, Classes and Tactical Combat

Nintendo has apparently revealed a whole bunch of new details about Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave in a special Direct presentation. According to reports, the showcase gave an insight into the story of the game, new character classes, improved combat systems and a host of features intended to broaden the long-running tactical role-playing series.

The new game in the announced Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave direct series will mix the popular turn-based strategy game with new progression systems and an even greater focus on character relationships. Nintendo is yet to confirm final details on the release date, platforms, editions and general gameplay mechanics.

New Story Starts Conflict

The game is reportedly about a band of heroes caught up in a conflict between rival kingdoms, ancient powers and a mysterious force connected to fate.

Fortune’s Weave may refer to a system whereby characters’ choices impact alliances, battles and the story’s progression. Player choices determine what units join the army and how some chapters develop.

Personal connections will probably be closely tied to the larger political struggle, as in former entries.

New Classes With Character Builds

New classes were revealed along with returning favourites, as reported by The Direct.

Traditional roles of sword fighters, archers, mages, healers and armoured units are still expected to be relevant. New classes will combine abilities from different roles, allowing players more freedom in building their army.

So one hybrid class may use physical weapons and magic, while the other may be focused on movement or support or battlefield control. Options like this might give more flexibility in planning team.

New Features for Combat Tactics

The core of the experience remains turn-based combat.

You’ll have to position your units well, learn the ranges of your enemies and choose the right weapon for each fight. Terrain, elevation, weather and defensive structures may have an even bigger impact on combat than in some of the previous games.

The Direct also reportedly adds new team attacks, or linked abilities that can be triggered when characters fight alongside trusted allies.

Weapon System Could Provide Greater Flexibility

The new game could change the way weapons, durability and skills work.

Players can improve their weapons through crafting, special materials, or class-specific upgrades. Some weapons would provide abilities that would make players stick to their favourite weapons rather than always replacing them.

The combat system could also be less constraining with more varied characters and yet still have the weapon advantages.

The Ties of Character Still Matter

Unit relationships are expected to affect both story and battlefield performance.

Characters who have been together for a long time can have open conversations, support bonuses and special skills. Such bonds could increase accuracy, defence or the effectiveness of linked attacks.

Romance options may also return, but the full relationship system has not been officially confirmed here.

Central Hub May Come Back

In the Direct, it looks like there was a central hub area that players can use to get ready between missions.

The hub can have training grounds, shops, character dialogues, crafting stations and optional activities. This could be a space for players to manage equipment, build relationships and prepare units for upcoming battles.

The trick will be keeping them feeling useful, without becoming repetitive or bogging down the main story.
