Audi appears to have lifted the wraps on the Q9, a new full-size luxury SUV that will reportedly sit above the Q7 as the brand’s largest and most luxurious sport utility vehicle. The model is designed to appeal to global buyers in the market for three-row practicality, state-of-the-art technology, powerful performance and the comfort of Audi’s flagship vehicles.
Reportedly, the Audi Q9 full-size SUV could take on the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, and others. Final specs, engine choices, pricing and regional availability have yet to be officially confirmed by Audi.
Audi Q9: new daring design
The Q9 is rumoured to have a more muscular and aggressive exterior than Audi’s current SUV lineup.
It’s expected to feature a large front grille, slim LED headlights, sculpted body panels and a wide stance, which will give it a commanding road presence. Large alloy wheels and premium exterior finishes could add to its luxury look.
Audi could also offer S line styling packages for customers who want a sportier look.
Three-row cabin, spacious for families
The larger fuselage is expected to carry six or seven passengers.
Depending on the trim, buyers could get a standard second-row bench or captain’s chairs as an option. A better third-row access and more legroom could make the Q9 more family- and long-distance travel-friendly.
The larger dimensions should also offer more cargo room than the Q7 with the rear seats folded down.
Interiors are defined by premium materials
The Q9 will likely be a flagship Audi model, with premium materials used throughout the cabin.
It could have leather seats, metal trim, soft-touch surfaces, mood lighting and genuine wood or carbon-fibre detailing. Upgraded trims may feature heated, ventilated and massage seats.
Multi-zone climate control and acoustic glass would allow for a quieter and more comfortable environment.
Advanced Technology Under the Spotlight
The Q9 is also expected to get Audi’s latest digital systems.
It could get a large infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, head-up display, connected navigation and voice controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also expected, as are multiple USB-C ports and wireless charging.
Rear-seat entertainment and a premium sound system are among the optional upgrades.
Powerful Engines Anticipated
Depending on the market, Audi may provide a variety of powertrain options for the Q9.
There could be turbocharged petrol units, mild-hybrid technology and plug-in hybrid systems. Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive should be a big part of the lineup.
Performance variants haven’t been officially confirmed, but a more powerful SQ9 variant could arrive later.
Air Suspension May Enhance Comfort
A full-size luxury SUV must ride smoothly given its size and weight.
The Q9 could feature adjustable air suspension to enhance comfort and change ride height. Rear-wheel steering could also make the vehicle feel more manageable in city traffic and parking areas.

Audi is expected to equip the Q9 with a variety of driver assistance systems.
Expected features include adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, parking cameras and traffic-sign recognition.
Advanced highway assistance may also be available in higher trims, although drivers would still need to be alert.
