Pokémon GO Outage

Pokémon GO Outage – Pokémon GO appears to have suffered a massive outage, with tens of thousands of players reporting connection issues, login troubles and difficulties accessing normal game features. The game’s international community quickly noticed the outage, as players began reporting issues on mobile devices and online outage-monitoring sites. Even a short service interruption can have a massive impact for a live-service title that’s based on real-time events, raids, catching Pokémon and location-based gameplay.

Pokémon GO players report login and connection problems

The most common complaints during a major Pokémon GO outage tend to be players unable to sign in, load the game map, or connect to Niantic servers.

Other players might experience delayed loading screens, nearby Pokémon not appearing, raid errors and problems interacting with PokéStops and Gyms.

The game is so reliant on a constant internet connection and communication with the servers, that any issue with the backend can very quickly impact large numbers of players simultaneously.

Said to be Affected in the Tens of Thousands

The outage is believed to have affected tens of thousands of users, suggesting the problem was not confined to a small group of players.

If you see large spikes in outage reports in different areas, it could be a bigger server-side issue and not an issue with individual phones or local internet.

But the exact numbers could change quickly as players are able to access again or new reports come out.

Server problems can wreck live events

Pokemon GO has regular timed events, raids, Community Days, special research, and limited bonuses.

A major outage during one of these windows can leave players frustrated since some activities are only available in a small window of time.

If server problems stop people from doing what they wanted to do in the game, that’s also a problem for players who pay for items like raid passes.

This is why, when there are widespread disruptions, communication from the developer becomes even more crucial.

Niantic Server Issues Can Impact Multiple Features

Pokémon GO’s backend system is pretty complex, dealing with location data, player accounts, battles, raids, inventory and live events.

A problem with authentication or core servers can therefore lead to several symptoms at once.

One player might fail to log in, or get into the game and see that maps, raids or Pokémon encounters aren’t loading correctly.

Players should not try to log in repeatedly.

If the problem is server-side, then changing account settings or repeatedly reinstalling the game may not fix the problem during a major outage .

Players are generally better off checking official service updates and waiting for confirmation that normal access has been restored.

Changes that aren’t necessary to the account can cause more confusion, particularly if users forget their login details or disconnect linked services.

Sudden Spikes May Appear in Outage Trackers

Tools such as Downdetector can also serve as an early warning that a platform is struggling.

A spike in reports doesn’t tell you what caused an outage, but it can mean a lot of people are having the same issues.

The best way to find out if the problem has been acknowledged and when you can expect to have normal service again is to keep an eye on the official updates from the developers.
