God of War Kratos Sequel – Rumours around the future of the God of War series have been sparked again, with reports suggesting a new sequel featuring Kratos could follow a project based around Laufey. Rumours of Comic-Con 2026 have sparked speculation that the two stories are more narratively connected. That said, Sony and Santa Monica Studio have yet to officially confirm these reports so fans should take them with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made.

The God of War Kratos sequel is one of the most anticipated projects in the gaming industry, following the success of God of War Ragnarok. The Norse saga ends with some plot threads left dangling and many fans believe another big adventure could already be on the horizon.

Rumour has it Laufey and Kratos are story connected

Online reports suggest that a project with Laufey could be a precursor to Kratos’ next adventure. Laufey is Kratos’ dead wife and Atreus’ mother in Norse mythology. She’s a pretty big deal in the God of War universe.

If the rumours are true, the new storyline could explore parts of Laufey’s life that players haven’t seen yet, giving more insight into the way she shaped the fates of Kratos and Atreus. The story can very well go for a sequel in the future with Kratos in the lead role again.

Comic-Con events can be used by publishers to fuel gamer excitement by releasing trailers, developer interviews or updates on upcoming projects at the convention.

Recently there’s been a lot of online buzz about a larger God of War story arc that would connect multiple games down the road to be revealed at Comic-Con 2026. But there has been no comment from PlayStation on the reports and speculation is rife in gaming circles.

Fans have to understand the difference between convention rumours, social media chatter and official announcements from Sony or Santa Monica Studio.

Kratos is still the soul of the franchise

Kratos has become one of PlayStation’s most recognisable characters since the franchise rebooted in 2018. The interactions with Atreus, the emotionality that the Norse saga has given to the story, have helped to recontextualize the series for a new generation of players.

You’d expect any mainline God of War title to still heavily feature Kratos, even if other characters have bigger roles in spin-offs or companion stories.

Santa Monica Studio has demonstrated that they are willing to evolve the franchise and still maintain the character-driven storytelling that has been their hallmark.

PlayStation is glowing with its big exclusives

A future God of War game is also another addition to Sony’s list of first-party blockbusters like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon and Ghost of Yōtei.

For now, PlayStation’s long game still hinges heavily on those exclusives that usher players into the PS5 ecosystem and showcase what the modern hardware can do.

There are still a lot of rumours surrounding future God of War games, but Sony has not announced an official release window and has not confirmed the existence of the reported projects.
